Past Events2003 Annual General MeetingHonolulu Country Club - Jun 18, 2003The Engineering Alumni Association of the University of Hawaii (EAAUH) elected and installed its 2003-2004 Executive Board members at the Annual General Meeting held on June 18, 2003 at the Honolulu Country Club. Outgoing President Jamie Hikiji reviewed the past years activities and Dean Wai-Fah Chen outlined the highlights of and major issues facing the College of Engineering. The Executive Board extends a special Mahalo to Ted Liu, Director of the State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), and Maurice Kaya, Chief Technology Officer of DBEDT. They presented DBEDT’s purpose, which is to provide leadership, policies, and incentives to revitalize Hawaii’s economy. Of special interest was DBEDT’s view of the importance of the College of Engineering in providing quality engineers for Hawaii’s workforce in new and expanding markets. They presented an optimistic view for a dynamic business environment for engineers. Las Vegas TripLas Vegas - Feb 10, 2003For the first time ever, the EAAUH organized a trip to Las Vegas! The trip was scheduled to coincide with the exciting World of Concrete exhibition. Also planned was a banquet and golf tournament.

See the Golf Tournament Page for more information. 2002 General MeetingHonolulu Country Club - Jun 12, 2002Approximately 32 members attended our Annual General Meeting where we presented an update of our activities to the Membership. This year's guest speakers were Aaron Ohta and Michael Tamamoto from UH's own CubeSat Team. CubeSat is a multi-disciplined project comprised of undergraduate EE, ME and CE students who are designing a satellite to send into space...Launch date: April 2003. College of Engineering Open HouseHolmes Hall - May 13, 2002Alumni volunteers assisted the COE with the annual Engineering Open House. Alumni escorted high school students and parents to various labs set up throught the college and participated in several panel discussion sessions. Thanks to all alumni volunteers! Sacred Hearts Science Symposium for GirlsSacred Hearts Academy - Feb 19, 2002Alumni Kelly Yuen and Cheryl Sato-Ishii from the Dean's office gave a presentation on the engineering profession at the 2002 Sacred Hearts Science Symposium for Girls. After the presentation, Kelly and Cheryl tasked the girls with a hands-on project - to build the highest, sturdiest, most cost-efficient skyscraper they could . . . using only straws and paper clips! Many of the teams' towers were creative and inventive, and the girls had so much fun, one even asked for Kelly and Cheryl's autographs!
Kahe Power Plant Technical Field TripKahe Power Plant - Aug 12, 2001Join us for a tour of the Kahe Power Plant at the Hawaiian Electric Company. The tour will be eld on Friday, October 12, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Parking is available at the facility. As always, a pau hana party to follow at Cafe Bronco. EAAUH General MeetingHonolulu Country Club - Jun 06, 2001The EAAUH held the Annual General Meeting on June 6, 2001 at the Honolulu Country Club to mark the end of the 2000-2001 term and the beginning of the new year. President Terilyn Shibata gave her final President's message to the membership and outlined the highlights of the past year. Past-President Derek Mukai installed the 2001-2002 Officers, with Kely Ota elected as the new EAAUH President. This year's guest speaker was Mr. Joseph Blanco, Executive Assistant to the Governor and Special Advisor for Technology Development gave an overview of this past Legislative Session as it relates to the technical community. Annual Field TripKona - Feb 10, 2001The annual EAAUH field trip was held in February 2001, in Kona, Hawaii. Approximately 25 members attended the trip for a weekend of sun, fun and golf, golf, golf. Attendees were treated to a tour of the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) and Common Heritagem where Dr. Craven described the use of cold-water irrigiation to grow cold area plants such as cauliflower and artichokes in hot locations. The rest of the weekend was for play, with a pau hana barbeque sponsored by the Executive Board and tee times at the Kona Country Club and the Makalei Hawaii Country Club. Red Hill Technical TourRed Hill Facility - Jan 26, 2001The EAAUH sponsored a tour of the Red Hill Facility in January 2001. Twenty-nine members and friends viewed the tanks stored under the hill, and recieved alesson in the history, construction and function of the Red Hill as a source of fuel for Pearl Harbor. After the conclusion of the tour, attendees gathered at Cafe Bronco for pau hana drinks, and partied late into the night.
